Coral (πͺΈ, U+1FAB8) was approved to symbolize reef conservation β a follow-up to the 2024 "Year of the Reef" campaign by NOAA and UN-Oceans. The single-piece emoji (no skin-tone variants needed) is one of the first explicitly environmental emoji in Unicode's history. Already heavily used in climate TikTok content.
π Ballet Dancers lead in 2026 β the new ZWJ-sequence replaces the 2010 π©° Ballerina Shoes + single dancer emoji with two dancers, and Gen Z immediately adopted it for "vibes that don't fit into a single figure" content. π Orca is second (vs. π³ the older Spouting Whale), followed by πͺΈ Coral.
The 2010 π©° Ballerina Shoes emoji stays. The single-figure πΊ Man Dancing was retired in Unicode 17.0 β its codepoint now goes to π Ballet Dancers. Old text referencing U+1F483 will auto-render as π on updated devices; on iOS 17 and earlier you'll see the old stick-figure dancer.
